The U.S. EPA regulations place high demands on precise monitoring and test verification of smoke stack emissions. The PCC-300 Smoke Opacity Monitor is designed, as assembled and tested to be certifiable according to U.S. EPA regulation 40 CFR, Part 60, Appendix B, Performance Specification 1.

The PCC-300 Smoke Opacity Monitor consists of a transceiver, retro reflector, stack mounted service module, indicating instrument and an optional air purge blower assembly and weather cover.

PCC-300 Transceiver

The transceiver (shown here with housing removed) is designed for easy access. The service pack is stack-mounted directly next to the transceiver for convenient servicing.

  • Double pass type with 40 foot optical path length capability
  • The transceiver consists of:
    • Light source
    • Light sensor
    • Beam splitters
    • Lenses
    • Span filters
    • Other optics
  • Housed in NEMA 4 enclosure with a replaceable protective window that isolates the optics from flue gasses
  • No moving parts during normal operation
  • Designed to accept an external opacity audit device

Retro Reflector Features

  • Installed in a swing to open NEMA 4 enclosure with alignment guide pins for positive alignment
  • A nonadjustable "iris" and retro reflector are factory calibrated
  • The unit includes:
    • Optical alignment adapter flanges
    • Purge air plenum
    • Mounting hardware

Indicating Instrument Features

  • Based on reliable PCC-III Controller
  • Alarm messages include: opacity warning level, high opacity, high dust and component diagnostics
  • Status Indicating LEDs include: normal operation, fault, alarm, run, auto/man cycle, zero or span in progress
