CB-Hawk Replacement System
Known as Honeywell BCS-7700 and CB-Hawk systems, thousands of units have been installed since the early 90's. Over a year ago, honeywell abruptly stopped manufacturing system components and spare parts.
The Preferred Instruments CB-Hawk Replacement System, based on BurnerMate TS technology introduced in 2005, consists of: a programmable DCS, a Honeywell flame relay, and a touch-screen HMI. Existing wires, sensors, and control cabinets can be reused. The CB-Hawk Replacement System is made and supported in America. Preferred Instruments has been a supplier to the boiler industry since 1920. Preferred will provide technical support and spare parts for the Hawk Replacement System for as long as they are needed.
Benefits
- Lowest Cost, Full Function Replacement
- Easiest Conversion
- Lowest Installation Time
- Easy to Use Touch Screen Operation and Commissioning
- Standard package includes Single Point Positioning control (Optional Parallel Positioning with O2 trim is available)
Preferred's Solution
Preferred has configured a BurnerMate TS system to be a wire-for-wire replacement for the CB Hawk system. Installation is simple.
- Reuse over 20 devices and replace only 5 to help minimize the installation cost
- Existing control panel, entrance box, control switches, flame scanner, and operating limits are reused
- Existing solid state gas and oil pressure sensors can be reused for monitoring purposes
- Replace Hawk sub-panel with Preferred sub-panel
- Replace gas & oil pressure sensors with pressure switches
- Replace steam pressure sensor with a pressure transmitter (or temperature transmitter for hot water boilers)
- Install a new purge air flow switch
- Replace mod motor with Preferred SM-15 servo actuator
- Remove CB-Hawk keypad
- Install the Preferred touch-screen display (Blockware is pre-programmed.)
Touch Screen Operator Terminal
- 10 or 6 Inch Display Sizes - 10.4" TFT 256 color VGA 640 x 480 pixel LCD or 5.7" CSTN 256 Color QVGA 320 x 240 pixel LCD
- Password Protection - user configurable options and parameters, external commissioning tools are not required
- Real Time & Historical Trending - is a standard feature, optional extended data collection allows historical alarm and event data to be exported to MS Excel
Advanced External Communications
- Intranet Network - Ethernet connection is available for Building Automation System (BAS), SCADA system or standard internet browser communication
- Telephone Modem (optional) - allows communication to a remote user over standard analog telephone lines
- RS-485 Modbus Interface - is available to communicate to an external flame safeguard that is existing or supplied by others
Advanced Communication

Internet, Web Site Access A standard WEB Browser provides remote monitoring and operation. Custom Software is not required. Historical alarm and event data can be imported to spreadsheet applications such as MS Excel |
Intranet Communication The ethernet communication port is easily assigned an IP address and connected to a facility wide network. Remote monitoring, control and data collection is available via a standard WEB Browser. Building Automation Systems and SCADA Systems are interfaced via industry standard MODBUS Ethernet communication |

DCS-III Programmable Controller The DCS-III, the processor that powers the Hawk replacement system, is a state-of-the-art boiler-focused programmable logic controller. The Hawk replacement system is pre-configured to be a direct replacement for obsoleted CB-Hawk and HW BCS 7700 controllers. However, additional functions such as Parallel Positioning Combustion Control, O2 Trim, or VSD operation can be configured. |
Color TouchScreen Display
The BurnerMate TS gives you a complete control of your boiler room at your finger tips...
Boiler Overview
- The screen pages closely resemble the language and logic of the old Hawk system
- With fill-in-the-blanks commissioning, operators will not be intimidated and relearning is not necessary
- 6" and 10" touch-screens are available
- One display to control and monitor boiler operation
- Setpoints and process data are readily available all on one screen

Alarm and Event Summary
- Alarms, events and operator actions are logged with time/date stamp and description

Remote Control and Monitoring
- By using a standard web browser, a boiler operator can monitor and control his boiler from any remote location
- The optional SCADA/Flex Distributed Control System provides remote operation, graphic display of information, alarm message displays, alarm printing, and remote boiler tuning capabilitie

Real Time & Historical Trending
- Easy to use multiple pen electronic charts allow quick boiler assessment and maintenance monitoring
- Optional extended data collection allows historical, alarm and event data to be exported to MS Excel

Combustion Tuning
- Fuel-air ratio input is easy and intuitive with "fill-in-the-blanks" setup pages. Air, fuel, and other output points are continuously graphed for all firing rates

Easy Commissioning
- Boiler setup and tuning is a display driven fill-in-the-blanks operation. The need for laptops and blockware knowledge is eliminated
- New curves are easily setup by following the step-by-step instruction on the Touch Screen Operator Interface

Flame Safeguard
The BurnerMate system is engineered to be in compliance with the latest Factory Mutual and NFPA 85 standards. The systems are manufactured, tested and labeled according to UL 508 standards.
A HoneyWell LM 7800 Flame Safeguard controller sequences the burner through purge, lightoff, main flame, and shudown. The DCS-III processor extracts information from the flame safeguard controlller. Interface to the flame safeguard controller and the DCS-III is through the TouchScreen display.
